Mon, 21 Mar 2011 04:06:00 -0700 Make your eCommerce site viral http://www.ramavadakattu.com/friends-activity-idea-which-can-bring-viralit http://www.ramavadakattu.com/friends-activity-idea-which-can-bring-viralit
Influence in Real world:
Assume you and your friend have gone shopping to purchase a pair of shoe.Your brought a pair of shoe and your friend got likes it and  in turn he may buy the same pair of shoe.In really word there is considerable amount of influence on your friends  and neighbours when you buy something.

Lonely shopping on an  ecommerce site
Now consider your ecommerce site where there are hundreds of users/buyers who are daily buying. They are buying many things but still none of their friends who are there on the same site know about it , this we can call as lonely shopping. This is happening as a user and his friends are not connected on ecommerce site.

Illustration:

Alex and Jason are friends on your ecommerce site but they are not connected to each other.

Connecting a user and his friends brings virality to an ecommerce site
Assume if we connect a user and his friends and show a user what his friends are doing on your site (please see the below image)  like what they are buying and allowing him to “like” any activity such a thing will make your e-commerce platform viral.

Illustration:

A sample picture which showing what his friends have brought.Notice the likes and comments.

How it brings Virality?

In the above diagram assume Jason,Alex,Sumit,Amit are on your ecommerce site.Jason and Alex are friends,Alex and Sumit are friends.Jason brought an item, which is published to his friends and alex recieves this udpate which he likes, this is published to his friend sumit who decides to buy. When we establish connections between an user and his friends any buying activity can influence his friends, his friends-friends and so on.Notice how sumit  has ended up buying the same item which orginally jason has brought.

With this essentially your ecommerce site has formed a small social graph  (friends connected to each other) which can give you many benefits.

Benefits

Viral effects on Merchandise:
When a user A  buys an item it has an influence on his friends, when user A friend likes or buys the same  item  it has influence on this friends and so on..............this has viral effects on merchandise and the ecommerce site can sell more items which was not possible before.

Engagement:
In addition to buying, users keep comming  to your site to see the what his friends are buying.

Sellers can become instantly popular (Marketplaces):
This phenomenon is also useful to marketplaces (like eBay) where in addition to above benefits the sellers can become instantly popular due to viral effects which sellers like to have and it can attract more sellers towards such platform.

Please let me know your feedback in comments

  • The boss drives group members; the leader coaches them. The Builder learns from them.
  • The boss depends upon authority; the leader on good will. The Builder depends on good.
  • The boss inspires fear; the leader inspires enthusiasm. The Builder is inspired — by changing the world.
  • The boss says "I"; the leader says "we". The Builder says "all" — people, communities, and society.
  • The boss assigns the task, the leader sets the pace. The Builder sees the outcome.
  • The boss says, "Get there on time;" the leader gets there ahead of time. The Builder makes sure "getting there" matters.
  • The boss fixes the blame for the breakdown; the leader fixes the breakdown. The Builder prevents the breakdown.
  • The boss knows how; the leader shows how. The Builder shows why.
  • The boss makes work a drudgery; the leader makes work a game. The Builder organizes love, not work.
  • The boss says, "Go;" the leader says, "Let's go." The Builder says: "come."

Mon, 10 Jan 2011 02:23:44 -0800 Few quotes from the book The Fred Factor http://www.ramavadakattu.com/few-quotes-from-the-book-the-fred-factor http://www.ramavadakattu.com/few-quotes-from-the-book-the-fred-factor Last week i was reading the book The Fred Factor. This book is about a Post man who delivers extraordinary service and make a difference in their customer lives.

He knows that the way to move through life joyfully and successfully is by focusing on what you give rather than on what you get.He knows that you don't do the right thing just because you have to do it.You do it because it is the right thing to do.Nick knows that being of service isn't an obligation ,but an opportunity. He knows that being helpful is every more fun than being helped.

Here's a mystery: If you expect praise and recognition, it will seldom come.I really don't know why , but life has demonstrated repeatedly that if your motive for doing something is to receive thanks or praise, you'll often be disappointed. If, however, you go about doing the right thing, knowing that the doing is its own reward , you'll be fulfilled whether or not you get recognition from others. When reward or recognition comes, it will be icing on the cake.

What makes any act extraordinary is doing it with heart. What makes any life extraordinary is living it with love. That's the secret of the Fred Factor.

We Are What We Choose

Tomorrow, in a very real sense, your life -- the life you author from scratch on your own -- begins.
How will you use your gifts? What choices will you make?
Will inertia be your guide, or will you follow your passions?
Will you follow dogma, or will you be original?
Will you choose a life of ease, or a life of service and adventure?
Will you wilt under criticism, or will you follow your convictions?
Will you bluff it out when you're wrong, or will you apologize?
Will you guard your heart against rejection, or will you act when you fall in love?
Will you play it safe, or will you be a little bit swashbuckling?
When it's tough, will you give up, or will you be relentless?
Will you be a cynic, or will you be a builder?
Will you be clever at the expense of others, or will you be kind?   --Jeff

The Grace of God cannot be won, through the gymnastics of reason, the contortions of yoga or the denials of asceticism. Love alone can win it. Love that needs no requital, love that knows no bargaining, love that is paid gladly, as tribute to the All-loving, love that is unwavering, love alone can overcome obstacles, however many and mighty. There is no strength more effective than purity, no bliss more satisfying than love, no joy more restoring than Bhakthi (devotion to God), and no triumph more praiseworthy than surrender.-- Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you dig deeper, it's really how it works. The design of the Mac wasn't what it looked like, although that was part of it. Primarily, it was how it worked. To design something really well, you have to get it. You have to really grok what it's all about. It takes a passionate commitment to really thoroughly understand something, chew it up, not just quickly swallow it. Most people don't take the time to do that.

Exactly! One of the best essay in PG's H&Ps book in my opinion was the one that explains how winning doesn't have to be a zero-sum game, you can generate wealth. This seems a no brainer but a lot of people don't get it.

Many predict that a similar thing will happen in the battle between Google and Apple.

1. Mutual trust and communication simply cannot exist in an environment where an admission of failure or a request for help is looked down upon as a   career limiting move , or where information is hoarded as a source of power.

2.Information, whether good or bad must not be guarded like some precious commodity. Some company cultures reward executives who hoard knowledge or suppress bad news.In any of my companies , that is a firing offense. All news, but especially bad news, needs to be dissected, understood and acted upon

3.No organizational habit is more insidious and dangerous to a small company than constant formal upward review and the need to wait for the big decision.

4.On Founders : passionate visionaries capable of articulating a compelling vision, agile enough to learn and discover as they went, resilient enough to deal with countless failures, and responsive enough to capitalize on what they learned in order to get early customers.

Fri, 26 Mar 2010 03:26:00 -0700 The only thing that matters is getting to product/market fit. http://www.ramavadakattu.com/the-only-thing-that-matters-is-getting-to-pro http://www.ramavadakattu.com/the-only-thing-that-matters-is-getting-to-pro

The only thing that matters is getting to product/market fit.

Product/market fit means being in a good market with a product that can satisfy that market.

You can always feel when product/market fit isn't happening. The customers aren't quite getting value out of the product, word of mouth isn't spreading, usage isn't growing that fast, press reviews are kind of "blah", the sales cycle takes too long, and lots of deals never close.

And you can always feel product/market fit when it's happening. The customers are buying the product just as fast as you can make it -- or usage is growing just as fast as you can add more servers. Money from customers is piling up in your company checking account. You're hiring sales and customer support staff as fast as you can. Reporters are calling because they've heard about your hot new thing and they want to talk to you about it. You start getting entrepreneur of the year awards from Harvard Business School. Investment bankers are staking out your house. You could eat free for a year at Buck's.

Lots of startups fail before product/market fit ever happens.

My contention, in fact, is that they fail because they never get to product/market fit.

Carried a step further, I believe that the life of any startup can be divided into two parts: before product/market fit (call this "BPMF") and after product/market fit ("APMF").

When you are BPMF, focus obsessively on getting to product/market fit.

Do whatever is required to get to product/market fit. Including changing out people, rewriting your product, moving into a different market, telling customers no when you don't want to, telling customers yes when you don't want to, raising that fourth round of highly dilutive venture capital -- whatever is required.

When you get right down to it, you can ignore almost everything else.

Are you considering starting up a business because you wish to work on wonderfully interesting technical problems all of the time?  Stop now — Google is hiring, go get a job with them.  90% of the results of your business, and somewhere around 90% of the effort, are caused by non-coding activities:
1.dealing with pre-sales inquiries,
2. marketing
3. SEO
4. customer support
5. website copywriting etc.

Charging for accounts was the only thing that could alter a bad ending.
As soon as a customer starts paying you for something you created (as opposed to a service you’re providing like selling cars) a few things start to happen that alter your behavior:
  1. Paying customers will complain and you will listen & enhance.
  2. Bugs & features will have real users attached to them and thus more weight.
  3. Your application’s roadmap will be guided by your customers and not by cool ideas.
Today, 6 months after we started charging, we have 72 paid accounts with $0 spent on marketing. All we did was give out a few trial accounts to our friends in the car business and they started telling each other.

pingdom.com is company which does

Pingdom

But see their latest blog post
It is about google.
Why should a website monitoring company have to write about Google with such great detail instead of their own service ?
Because such content can trigger sharing, when ever  people sees the post the probability that the content gets shared with his friends is very high .Such sharing is all they want by which company name is known to many people. So in future when ever they want their website to be monitored they will try to evaluate pingdom among various options that they have. (or) they can refer pingdom to their friends who are looking to monitor their website.
You can see from below the number of shares that has happened across various social media sites.
Sharing
Lesson that we can learn are :

To get attention for your company from the people.

1.Start a blog.
2.Create some interesting content (videos,statistics,etc....) around the problem you are solving which can trigger shares and gain attention.
